Whether you’ve spent the day exploring Ayrshire’s incredible landscapes by boot, boat, and bike, sinking putts at its world-renowned golf courses, or simply relaxing and watching the world go by, one thing’s for sure – no break to the Salt Lodge Hotel is complete without sampling the fantastic food and drink near Troon!
From the sea to the sky and the rolling hills, we have an incredible larder on our doorstep at The Salt Lodge hotel in Troon – and we’re lucky enough to be surrounded by restaurants that know how to make the most of it!
Whether you’re enjoying sunrise slice of black pudding, a lunchtime selection of seafood fresh from the morning’s catch, or dining on a dry-aged Ayrshire steak, The Salt Lodge is the perfect base to explore some of the best scran (that’s ‘food’ for our American cousins!) that Scotland has to offer.
Food and drink is a serious business in Troon so we’ve picked out just a few of the many incredible restaurants on our doorstep to whet your appetite. Ready your taste buds!
Scott’s Bar and Restaurant
Here at The Salt Lodge hotel, we’re blessed with neighbours who know a thing or two about fantastic food. With a menu that changes to reflect the best produce of the season, a wine list that would impress even the most-seasoned sommelier, and a cocktail menu inspired by some of the world’s top bars, things are always ship-shape at Scott’s. Perched just next door, it’s the perfect place to start your day with a filling breakfast and luxury coffee or to end the evening with a delicious dinner and a wee dram overlooking the marina.
The Wee Hurrie
Perched on the edge of Troon Harbour and famed for all the right reasons, seafood doesn’t get much fresher than the deep fried delights served up by the Wee Hurrie. Stop by for their multi-award-winning fish and chips or take a dip into the wonders of their daily specials board, which often features everything from Boston-style lobster rolls to grilled langoustines. Whatever you choose, you’re in for a treat!
The Harbour Bar
If you are seeking a traditional pub with classic comfort food, The Harbour Bar is the answer and it’s only a short 5 minute walk from The Salt Lodge. As an added bonus, The Harbour Bar is dog-friendly and children are welcomed up to 9pm. There’s a great beer garden to the rear, with an impressive selection of drinks stacked up behind the bar ensuring something’s something for everyone!
3 Idiots
3 Idiots Troon is an award-winning Indian Tapas-style restaurant, designed to allow you to try a little bit of everything! Fresh, healthy, vibrant in colour and packed full of flavour; the 3idiots is everything you’d want from a treat dinner. Open 6 days a week (closed Tuesdays) and offers dine-in and takeaway.
Arran Distillery
Dreaming of a dram? While you can sample the best of Scotland’s whisky in the many bars and restaurants around The Salt Lodge, nothing compares to making the pilgrimage to see the art of distilling light in water first-hand. Isle of Arran’s imaginatively titled Arran Distillery – one of the few remaining independent distilleries in Scotland and just a short hop over the water from the Salt Lodge Hotel – is the perfect place to learn more about our national drink… and drain a dram or two in the name of research!
Spider Monkey Coffee Co.
Their name might be bananas, but these guys and gals serve up some spectacular coffee and cake. From single source espresso to suki tea and artisan hot chocolate (the orangeytang will blow you away!), there’s something here to satisfy even the most ardent caffeine addict. As well as dishing up delectable drinks and sweet things, Spider Monkey also hosts a regular open mic night that welcomes everything from guitarists and comedians to magicians and poets. Pop along and showcase your talents – or just sit back and be entertained with a freshly-brewed coffee in-hand.
Dough
A wee slice of Napoli perched on the edge of Ayrshire, Dough serves up stone-baked pizzas that are perfection from core to crust. With toppings inspired by our seaside surroundings and specials that will walk the fine-line between inspired and insane (say hello to ‘The Scotsman’ – haggis, black pudding and bacon!), Dough is fast becoming a cult favourite among food and drink aficionados in Troon. Whether you’re refuelling after 18 holes or seeking a dinner that’s easy to snaffle on the sands, Dough has you covered.
